IndiGo enters lease for 10 A320neo aircraft

On August 22, BOC Aviation Limited announced the company’s entrance into a finance lease transaction with major Indian carrier IndiGo, for a further 10 Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The airline features a strong fleet of the A320neo series aircraft in its fleet already, with 171 of the type currently active with the airline.

All ten Airbus A320neo aircraft within this agreement are scheduled for delivery this year, and will house the CFM LEAP-1A powerplant. IndiGo also operates A320neo family aircraft with Pratt & Whitney engines.

New planes inbound


Major Indian carrier IndiGo features one of the largest Airbus A320neo fleets out there with a whopping 171 A320neos currently active with the airline per Planespotters.net data.

In addition, the carrier is now awaiting a further ten of the aircraft type as they have recently entered a lease and financing agreement with lessor BOC Aviation.

All aircraft are to be powered by CFM LEAP-1A powerplants, thus increasing the ratio of LEAP-powered A320neos within their fleet; with the remainder of the A320neo fleet being powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.

On the agreement, Steven Townend, Deputy Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer, BOC Aviation, said:

“We are delighted to be embarking on another transaction with our long-time customer IndiGo, to enable the airline to expand its fleet with the latest technology aircraft,”

“This showcases our ability to deploy alternative financing structures, to continue our long-term sustainable growth.”

Also on the new agreement with BOC Aviation, Riyaz Peer Mohamed, Chief Aircraft Acquisition and Financing Officer, IndiGo, said the following:

“We are pleased to enhance our partnership with BOC Aviation with the lease agreement for these 10 aircraft. This extended collaboration with BOC Aviation is part of our expansion strategy across domestic and international markets.”

80th and 81st Domestic Route: Khajuraho & Jaisalmer


Also announced this week, IndiGo has presented  their 80th and 81st domestic routes, being Khajuraho & Jaisalmer. These two new destinations means that across the IndiGo network, there are 113 total that are served by the Indian low-cost carrier.

The first route that IndiGo announced was on August 22, to the city of Khajuraho. These services will begin from Varanasi and Delhi from October 2023 on a daily basis. The flight numbers and information are as follows:

Domestic route number 81 for IndiGo is Jaisalmer which will consist of daily connections from Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.
