The International Airlines Group (IAG) looks to be wanting to use their Airbus A321XLRs to their limit when it comes to range.

14 units of the aircraft type are expected to be delivered between 2024-2026 for use by Iberia and Aer Lingus for the transatlantic hops.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

As per Enilria, they note that Dublin-St Louis for example is right on the range line for the Airbus A321XLR with IAG.

Based on proposed configurations on the aircraft, this would put the range at 3,925 miles, compared to the 4,700 that has been widely advertised by Airbus.

Even the 3,925 mile-configured aircraft wouldn’t be high density compared to other low-cost carriers, which could produce some concerns for usage of the aircraft on a LCC basis.

In documentation from IAG, it lists what the Airbus A321XLR range will look like for both Aer Lingus & Iberia.

However, the conglomerate remains very confident over it’s use, comparing it to the Boeing 757, labelling it “transformative economics” through the Premium Mix and less of a cost per seat.

Even so, it looks like the company will be pushing the limits of the A321XLR, and within that, it will be interesting to see what additional markets will be served with the aircraft.

All eyes will be on deliveries, which are expected to begin in 2024, not long after certification of the aircraft has been completed and entry-into-service can commence.
