Hawaiian Airlines has this week unveiled plans to launch services to Salt Lake City from Honolulu as well as to expand services from Sacramento to Lihu’e & Kona.

This represents another stage of route expansion from the carrier, as they seek to further assert their presence within the mainline U.S market.

Services between Salt Lake City and Honolulu will begin on May 15, 2024 with Hawaiian Airlines using their Airbus A321neo aircraft.

HA84 will depart at 1850 local time from the Hawaiian destination and land into the U.S destination at 0515 local time the next day, with the return, HA85 departing at 7am and arriving back into it’s base at 0955 local time.

Daniel Nāho’opi’i, Hawai’i Tourism Authority’s interim president and CEO had this to say on the new route:

“Hawaiian Airlines’ expanded service is a response to meaningful demand from one of our top 20 U.S. markets, and provides more opportunities for our kamaʻāina to travel and for friends and family members to return to Hawaiʻi”.

“We appreciate Hawaiian Airlines and its longstanding commitment to serving the people of Hawai’i and bringing mindful visitors to our state.”

On top of this, the airline has announced that it will expand services from Sacramento to Lihu’e to four times weekly from May 24 and three weekly to Kona from May 25, with the scheduling as follows:

HA 65 SMF-LIH 8:10 a.m. 10:50 a.m.

HA 74 KOA -SMF 12:15 p.m. 8:25 p.m. Monday, Wednesday,
Saturday 
HA 73 SMF-KOA 8:10 a.m. 10:40 a.m. 

Cindy Nichol, director of Sacramento County Department of Airports had this to say on the news:

“I am pleased to share that Hawaiian Airlines has added new nonstop flights from Sacramento International Airport (SMF) to Līhuʻe and Kona,”

“This is the first ever direct service to Līhuʻe, giving our customers yet another exciting option when planning their next island vacation.”

All eyes will be on how this service expansion will perform for the airline moving forward.
