Garuda Indonesia (GA) and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have announced a significant expansion of their commercial partnership.

This will mean enhanced benefits for frequent flyers and new possibilities for tourism growth. This strategic collaboration was signed on 20 May 2024, in Jakarta, Indonesia.

It continues both airlines’ commitment to optimizing the aviation landscape in Southeast Asia as the region recovers from the pandemic.

Loyalty and Frequent Flyer Program

A newly signed frequent flyer program agreement has been firmed by the CEOs of both airlines. This paves the way for members of GarudaMiles and KrisFlyer to earn and redeem miles on codeshare flights operated by both carriers.

This update translates into greater flexibility and a wider range of reward options for frequent flyers.

For example, travellers can accumulate miles on a trip from Jakarta to London via Singapore with Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines.

Revenue Sharing Agreement

The collaboration will extend beyond frequent flyer programs. A proposed joint venture revenue share agreement signifies a major step towards a deeper commercial partnership.

This agreement, subject to regulatory approvals, aims to support increased flight capacity between Singapore and Indonesia.

By working together to optimize operations and potentially share revenue, Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines stand to enhance profitability and ensure a more sustainable future for both airlines.

The positive impact of this partnership will undoubtedly extend beyond the airlines themselves. The carriers understand the crucial role that tourism plays in the economic well-being of both Indonesia and Singapore.

Accordingly, both Garuda Indonesia and Singapore Airlines have pledged to continue their joint marketing efforts. This may include familiarization trips designed to entice travel industry professionals and media to explore the beauty of Indonesia.

By showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities, these collaborative marketing initiatives have the potential to attract a surge of visitors to Indonesia, boosting the nation’s tourism sector.

The airlines’ existing strong codeshare partnership forms a solid foundation for this expanded collaboration.

Garuda Indonesia currently codeshares on Singapore Airlines flights connecting Singapore to popular Indonesian destinations like Bali, Jakarta, Medan, and Surabaya.

Additionally, SIA codeshares on Garuda Indonesia flights for these same routes, offering passengers a wider range of flight options and greater convenience.

This well-established partnership is poised to flourish further under the new agreements.
