Frontier Group Holdings Inc., parent company of Frontier Airlines, today reported financial results for the second quarter of 2023 and issued guidance for the third quarter and full year 2023.

Frontier Group Q2 2023

The second quarter of 2023 saw Frontier Group Holdings firm their financial position; achieving a total operating revenue of $967 million. This figure represents a six percent increase compared to the same quarter in the previous year.

One of the key indicators of an airline’s performance is its Cost per Available Seat Mile (CASM). Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. exhibited a sound improvement in this area, with a 20 percent enhancement over the same quarter in 2022.

Adjusted CASM, which excludes fuel costs and is considered a non-GAAP measure, also witnessed a positive shift. Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. managed to improve this metric by five percent compared to the previous year’s quarter

Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. achieved a pre-tax margin of 9.1 percent during the second quarter of 2023. This remarkable feat is not only a significant milestone for the company but also a post-pandemic record.

Elevating Ancillary Revenue

Passenger experience extends beyond the flight itself, and Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. understands this well. The company generated an impressive $80 per passenger in ancillary revenue during the second quarter. This figure surpasses the previous year’s quarter by $5 per passenger.

Frontier Airlines Fleet

As of June 30, 2023, Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. boasts a fleet of 126 Airbus single-aisle aircraft. These aircraft are scheduled and financed through operating leases set to expire between 2023 and 2035.

The company’s proactive fleet management strategy ensures that it remains agile and adaptable in the face of changing industry trends.

A significant step toward sustainability lies in the composition of the airline’s fleet. Frontier Group Holdings, Inc. took delivery of three A321neo aircraft during the second quarter of 2023.

This move increased the proportion of the fleet represented by the fuel-efficient A320neo family aircraft to an impressive 75 percent. This achievement, unparalleled among major U.S. carriers, solidifies Frontier’s commitment to operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

These routes, originating from key locations like Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago Midway, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Orlando, San Juan, St. Thomas, and Tampa, provide passengers with increased access to Frontier’s signature “Low Fares Done Right.”

Leadership comments

Barry Biffle, President and CEO of Frontier Group Holdings, Inc., expressed his satisfaction with the quarter’s results. He attributed the company’s success to the dedication of Team Frontier and their ability to maintain a cost advantage while expanding the airline’s capacity.

This growth, accompanied by a five percent improvement in non-fuel adjusted unit costs, highlights the company’s commitment to delivering value to its customers.
