US ultra-low cost carrier Frontier Airlines will launch new seasonal nonstop services from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA), Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ), and San Diego (SAN) in May of 2023.

On the regional front, Frontier will also restart its seasonal nonstop service from ATL to Ontario, Calif. (ONT), and Salt Lake City (SLC) in May.

The expansion will increase Frontier’s weekly international departures at ATL from 21 to 39. With the new service, Frontier will serve a total of 38 nonstop destinations from ATL.

Atlanta market growth

“Atlanta is one of Frontier’s fastest growing markets,” said Daniel Shurz, senior vice president of commercial, Frontier Airlines.

“We are proud to connect Atlanta to 10 international destinations and 28 U.S. destinations. We are working hard to make our already robust network at ATL even bigger and, in fact, by summer, Atlanta will be our third largest operation.”

“We know those in the Atlanta area appreciate Frontier’s ‘Low Fares Done Right,’ and now they can take advantage of even more affordable and convenient options when planning their next vacation.”

“We are pleased to partner with Frontier Airlines with these five new nonstop routes,” said ATL Deputy General Manager and Chief Commercial Officer Jai Ferrell.

“Additional service and new destinations expand connectivity for our passengers and illustrates our mission to deliver excellence while connecting our community to the world.”

Guatemala and Dominican Republic tourism

Tourism from the United States to both Guatemala and the Dominican Republic is an important market for both countries.

In the case of Guatemala, the country has a rich cultural and historical heritage that attracts many visitors, including ancient Mayan ruins, colonial architecture, and traditional markets.

In addition, Guatemala offers natural attractions such as volcanoes, lakes, and rainforests. The country has made significant efforts to promote tourism, and as a result, it has seen an increase in the number of visitors in recent years.

According to the World Bank, in 2019, Guatemala received around 2.1 million international tourists, with the United States being the largest source market, accounting for approximately 26% of all visitors.

Similarly, the Dominican Republic is also a popular destination for US tourists, with the country’s beautiful beaches, tropical climate, and all-inclusive resorts being major draws.

In addition, the Dominican Republic offers a range of cultural and historical attractions, including colonial-era architecture and museums.

According to the World Bank, in 2019, the Dominican Republic received approximately 7.1 million international tourists, with the United States being the largest source market, accounting for around 32% of all visitors.
