flydubai, has announced a new charter agreement with Czech Republic operator Smartwings. This agreement will see the Dubai-based carrier enter a wet lease ACMI arrangement for four Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The agreement is to be put in place between the dates of October 17, 2023, and April 16, 2024. The wet leased aircraft will bolster available capacity on the carrier’s network during busy periods.

The aircraft in question will operate under an Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance (ACMI) arrangement.

The four aircraft leased from Smartwings are set to provide vital support to flydubai’s existing fleet of 79 Boeing 737 aircraft.

This collaboration brings with it a multitude of advantages, chief among them being the increased capacity that flydubai can now offer to its passengers.

Travel enthusiasts and frequent flyers are all too familiar with the challenges posed by busy travel seasons. With this agreement, flydubai is poised to meet the surge in demand that often characterizes these peak periods.

As a result, travelers can expect smoother and more comfortable journeys, as flydubai’s increased operational efficiency enables them to better cater to the needs of their customers.


Insights from the Key Players

Ghaith Al Ghaith, the Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, commented on the collaboration: “We are pleased to confirm this new wet lease agreement with Smartwings, marking our third agreement with the carrier since 2019.”

Al Ghaith emphasized Smartwings’ exemplary certification, as an IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certified company, and their extensive experience in ACMI agreements.

He underscored the pivotal role of the four additional aircraft in maintaining operational efficiency, expanding capacity across their network, and mitigating potential disruptions during the bustling travel season.

Smartwings’ Chairman of the Board of Directors, Jiri Juran, echoed the sentiment of collaboration and mutual benefit.

He was pleased with the signing of what is now the third ACMI wet lease agreement with flydubai, emphasizing the enhanced utilization of their aircraft and the opportunities this collaboration affords their skilled workforce, particularly during the winter season.

A Glimpse into flydubai’s Fleet

flydubai’s current fleet comprises various iterations of Boeing 737 aircraft, reflecting a commitment to modernization and innovation. The fleet includes 30 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800, 46 Boeing 737 MAX 8, and three Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.

This spread of aircraft types ensures that flydubai can cater to a wide range of route options, serving diverse destinations with tailored comfort and efficiency.


The impact of this strategic collaboration extends beyond the airlines themselves. The newly leased all-Economy Class aircraft will be strategically deployed on select routes within flydubai’s network.

Travelers heading to destinations such as Chattogram, Colombo, Dhaka, Karachi, and Muscat can anticipate an enhanced and seamless journey experience, characterized by the state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
