Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has introduced regular services connecting Abu Dhabi with the vibrant Portuguese capital of Lisbon.
This exciting new air link was commemorated with the inaugural flight, EY63, which was celebrated at Abu Dhabi Airport.
Those present included His Excellency Fernando d’Orey de Brito e Cunha Figueirinhas, the Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the UAE, and Chris Hedlin, Etihad’s Vice President of Network Planning.
Upon arrival in Lisbon, Etihad’s captains proudly displayed the flags of the UAE and Portugal from the cockpit, symbolizing the connection between the two nations through this new air route.
The service, operated by a state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, will initially be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
The aircraft boasts 28 seats in Business Class and 262 seats in Economy, along with advanced entertainment systems, in-seat power outlets, and in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity.
Etihad Airways’ CEO, Antonoaldo Neves, expressed his enthusiasm about the expansion of their global network with the addition of Lisbon:
“We are thrilled to commence flights to Lisbon and to provide travelers with the opportunity to explore the historic city while also facilitating connections between Portugal, the UAE, and various destinations across the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.”

Upgraded from a seasonal route
Originally planned as a seasonal route, the overwhelming travel demand has prompted Etihad Airways to extend the service throughout the year, ensuring that passengers can benefit from this convenient air link regardless of the season.
To commemorate the launch of the first flight, guests on board were treated to special menu items that included the delectable Portuguese delicacy, custard tarts.
Business class passengers received luxury chocolates from the renowned Emirati brand, Mirzam, while Economy class guests were presented with unique commemorative luggage tags.
