Etihad Airways now flies to Osaka

Etihad Airways will introduce five new weekly flights from Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, to the second largest city in Japan – Osaka.

Osaka has been styled as the new ‘food capital of the world’ as of 1st October 2023. The new route from Etihad is Japan’s second destination aside Tokyo. By opening this new route will allow Etihad to grow its Asian network even further. 

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways said: “We’re delighted to introduce flights to Osaka for the first time.”

“As one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities, I know visitors will enjoy exploring its heritage and sampling some of Osaka’s renowned hospitality.

“Equally, the new route opens up Abu Dhabi to visitors from Osaka, and we look forward to welcoming guests to our vibrant home as well as giving them access to our growing, global network.”

This new introduced route will allow Etihad to expand further into the Japanese market. This will enhance the bilateral ties between the United Arab Emirates and Japan, economically, socially and culturally.

The traffic between the two vibrant countries is set to rise gradually after the Osaka service has been introduced. Osaka, an exciting metropolitan city, will become more connected than ever with Etihad Airlines flying to the country.

Osaka closer to the World


Osaka, is known as the  ‘Kitchen of Japan’. The newly introduced route will allow ‘foodies’ to fly to Osaka easier than ever.

The city offers a world-class eatery scene, with numerous Michelin-rated restaurants and eccentric restaurants and delicacies such as akoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes) and sushi are major highlights for foodies travelling to Osaka.

Now, toodies can fly Etihad to indulge their cravings. Apart from the exciting food scene that the city offers, Osaka is a journey back in time to experience the city’s rich history, including the Osaka Castle, to experience the samurai era, and visit the exciting and colourful Dontonbori district, famed for its neon-lit and colourfuly decorated streets with endless options for entertainment.

The Boeing 787-9


The flag carrier of the UAE has 39 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. 30 Boeing 787-9s and 9 Boeing 787-10s respectively. The Boeing 787-9 will be chosen to fly the new route to Osaka.

This is no surprise that the airline will utilize this fleet to the Japanese city, as this is an efficient and modern aircraft. The aircraft boasts low operating economics and comfortable hard products.

Passengers will also able to experience the airlines highly reputable service of catering and onboard entertainment. 

With Osaka being connected with Etihad, this places the Japanese market as one of the most hottest market for airlines, as the country is gaining more popularity amongst tourists.

Etihad is banking on the Japanese market as a new lifestyle destination, along with the Tokyo route, heavy for its business market.
