Emirates has unveiled plans for a colossal US$950 million investment. This substantial financial commitment aims to construct a cutting-edge engineering facility at Dubai World Central (DWC).

This ambitious venture is poised to reshape the regional landscape of aviation maintenance, repairs, and overhaul (MRO).

Largest Facility Globally

Spanning an impressive 1 million square meters, the forthcoming engineering complex is set to become the largest and most advanced facility of its kind globally.

This undertaking not only reinforces Emirates’ commitment to excellence but also elevates Dubai’s aviation infrastructure to new heights.

Designed with a forward-looking approach, the purpose-built facility will be a cornerstone in supporting Emirates’ aircraft fleet and operational needs well into the 2040s.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, expressed the significance of this venture, stating, “This significant investment signals our confidence in the future growth of Emirates and the aviation sector.”

Center of Excellence for Global Aviation

Emirates’ visionary investment goes beyond self-sufficiency; the facility is poised to be a center of excellence for commercial aviation engineering services in the Middle East.

With the potential to offer spare capacity to other airline operators, this move positions Dubai as a global player in the aviation supply chain.

From routine aircraft checks to bespoke paint jobs, light to heavy maintenance programs, engine repair and testing, to full cabin interior fit-outs and aircraft conversions – Emirates’ new engineering facility will be a comprehensive hub for specialized aircraft engineering services.

Timeline and Sustainability Integration

Construction on Phase 1 is slated to commence in 2024, with completion expected by 2027. The plan includes provisions for Phase 2 expansion, aligning with Emirates’ fleet growth and operational demands.

Sustainability takes center stage in the facility’s design, incorporating green building materials, solar panels, and recycling systems for oils and wastewater.

The initial phase will deliver 8 maintenance hangars, 1 paint hangar, an engine run-up facility, 20 support workshops, extensive storage facilities, and administration offices.

This state-of-the-art infrastructure positions Emirates at the forefront of the aviation industry.

Confidence and Growth

Emirates’ monumental investment not only ensures operational stability and flexibility but also underscores their role in the economic development of Dubai.

HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum emphasized that the facility would create thousands of skilled technical jobs, adding substantial value to the local economy.

To bring this grand vision to life, ADP Ingénierie has been appointed as project consultants. Their expertise will play a pivotal role in realizing the ambitious goals set by Emirates for this groundbreaking engineering facility.
