The Essence of Onam

Delightful Onam Delicacies

Passengers can anticipate a burst of flavors as they savor traditional Onam delicacies onboard. The journey begins with appetizers that include sharkara upperi – sweet jaggery-roasted bananas, kaya varuthathu – crispy banana chips, and kondattam mulaku – fried sundried chillies soaked in yogurt.

Accompanying these appetizers are flavorful dips, such as kaalan made from coconut, fresh yogurt, and yam, cucumber pachadi – a garnished salad, and puli inji – a tangy ginger-based chutney.

First and Business Class passengers will be treated to the additional delights of Kerala-style pappadam and mango pickle.

Main Courses

The main courses promise to transport passengers to the heart of Kerala’s culinary landscape. Diners can choose between alleppey kozhi curry – spiced chicken in creamy coconut sauce, served with avial, chemba rice, and cabbage carrot thoran, or opt for the vegetarian sadhya – a medley of sambar and kootu paired with matta rice and carrot pea thoran.

For those seeking non-vegetarian options, there’s the aromatic spiced chicken sukha, paired with steamed rice, carrot pea thoran, and vegetable kootu.

Mutton enthusiasts can relish the mutton sukha with chemba rice, erissery, and bean thoran. First Class passengers have the added privilege of savoring mutton pepper fry – a tantalizing choice.

Sweet Culmination

No celebration is complete without desserts, and Onam’s favorites take center stage. Passengers can indulge in palada pradhaman, a creamy rice pudding adorned with roasted pistachios, raisins, and cashew nuts, or savor the beloved parippu payasam – a sweet lentil pudding topped with toasted coconut flakes.

To complete the authenticity of the dining experience, all meals will be served on banana leaf dish liners, a nod to the traditional serving style of sadhya.

Movies and More

Emirates Airlines goes the extra mile to ensure passengers are entertained throughout the journey. More than 6,500 channels of entertainment are at passengers’ fingertips through Emirates’ award-winning ice system.

With a selection of over 45 Academy Award® winning films, 2,000 movies, 650 TV shows, and 4,000 hours of music, podcasts, and audiobooks spanning 40 languages, travelers are spoilt for choice.
