Today on September 23, 2023, an Emirates Airbus A380 flying from Dubai to Manchester made an unscheduled diversion into Istanbul.

Emirates EK19 to Manchester Diverts to Istanbul


Emirates flight EK19 operating from Dubai (DXB) to Manchester (MAN) left Dubai at 3:05 p.m. local time, however, just three hours into the flight the aircraft made an unscheduled diversion into Istanbul (IST).

According to data from RadarBox, the aircraft landed in Istanbul at 6:21 p.m. Turkish (TRT) time.

The flight was being operated by A6-EUO, a seven-year-old Airbus A380 in a two-class configuration with a total of 615 seats.

EK19 then spent two hours and 40 minutes on the ground in Istanbul before continuing on its flight heading towards Manchester after departing at 9:01 p.m. Turkish (TRT) time.

At the time of writing, the aircraft is overhead Brussels in Belgium and is due to land in Manchester at 10:23 p.m. UK (BST) time, nearly three hours later than its original arrival time in Manchester supposed to be 7:15 p.m.

According to reports across multiple social media platforms, the diversion was the result of a medical situation on board the aircraft.

At present, Emirates is the largest operator of the Airbus A380 and currently operates a total of 119 of the type, of which according to Planespotters, 90 of these are currently in active service with the remaining 29 either parked or undergoing maintenance prior to coming back into active service with the UAE carrier.
