Last night, footage emerged of an El Al Boeing 787 inbound to Tel Aviv being provided with a security escort by airport police in Los Angeles. The airline has used this service before, however.

The airline has used police escorts in the past before in Los Angeles, as well as to some of the other destinations they serve. In the context of the ongoing events in Israel, this ultimately comes as no surprise.

From the footage above, the aircraft was identified as 4X-EDF, the El Al Boeing 787 known for being in the retro livery that the airline used to sport.

The Boeing 787 was operating LY6, which departed Los Angeles at 1451 local time on Sunday, and arrived back into Tel Aviv at 1404 local time yesterday afternoon.

As per data from Planespotters.net, 4X-EDF is a 5.2 year old airframe that was delivered to the airline back in August 2018.

It has been noted by those in the industry that such security escorts have been utilised in the past by El Al, and is part of their overall strategy to security that has been in place for quite some time now.

And Los Angeles is a part of that too, as is any other airport that the airline operates to.

For example, an article from The Week in 2010, which shows how far back such a strategy goes in preserving such security. This would include security escorts of aircraft to enhanced security checks if you fly with El Al to and from Tel Aviv and much more.

So whilst this may appear unique due to the ongoing developments in Israel, El Al has adopted this strategy for quite some time.
