China Airlines, the Taiwan-based carrier, has announced its plans to introduce a leased Airbus A350-900 aircraft this year, further strengthening its fleet.

This widebody addition is set to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023 and will begin operating in the first quarter of 2024.

The arrival of this new aircraft will complement the existing fleet of fourteen A350-900 and ten 777-300ER passenger aircraft, positioning China Airlines as a prominent player in the North American and European networks as the travel market recovers from the impact of COVID-19.

Potential for two Airbus A350-900 Aircraft

During an extraordinary meeting, the China Airlines Board of Directors approved the leasing of two Airbus A350-900 aircraft. While one of the aircraft is already confirmed, the decision to lease the second one is contingent upon the state of the aircraft leasing market.

This strategic move underscores China Airlines’ commitment to enhancing its fleet capabilities and meeting the growing demands of its passengers.

Current Fleet: Versatile and Modern

China Airlines currently operates a fleet of 87 passenger and cargo aircraft. The passenger aircraft consist of Airbus A321neo, A350-900, A330-300, Boeing 777-300ER, 737-800, and 737-800 types, totaling 66 in number.

For cargo operations, the airline operates 21 freighters, including Boeing 777F and 747-400F types.

Additionally, China Airlines has placed an order for 24 Boeing 787 passenger aircraft, scheduled for delivery starting in 2025. The introduction of these new aircraft will enhance the airline’s flexibility and efficiency in managing its operations.

A350-900 and 777-300ER

China Airlines’ next-generation long-haul fleets, the A350-900 and 777-300ER, are thoughtfully configured to offer passengers three cabin classes: Premium Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.

With these options, travelers can select the level of comfort and service that suits their preferences, ensuring a pleasant and high-quality flying experience.

Green Operations Commitment

China Airlines is dedicated to the principles of ESG (Environment, Society, Corporate Governance) and has made significant strides in promoting environmentally-friendly practices.

The airline has introduced a new generation of green aircraft, incorporating advanced aerospace technology and lightweight materials, which result in notable fuel efficiency improvements and reduced carbon emissions.

To further contribute to a sustainable future, China Airlines has set ambitious targets for the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

By 2025, the airline aims to incorporate up to 2% SAF across its fleet, with a vision of reaching up to 5% by 2050. Ultimately, the airline strives to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050, aligning itself with global environmental goals.

Conclusion

China Airlines’ decision to introduce one leased Airbus A350-900 aircraft underscores its commitment to fleet expansion and delivering exceptional travel experiences to its passengers.

As the airline gears up for the post-COVID travel market, this new addition will strengthen its position in the North American and European networks.

Furthermore, with its focus on green operations, China Airlines aims to pave the way for sustainable aviation by adopting energy-efficient technologies and setting progressive targets for the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel.

With these initiatives, China Airlines demonstrates its dedication to both the environment and the satisfaction of its passengers.
