Today, Airbus announced that Bulgaria Air has taken delivery of its first Airbus A220, which will be the first of seven on lease.

All seven units of the type will be on lease from Air Lease Corporation and represent a significant renewal of the carrier’s fleet.

Of the five Airbus A220s that Bulgaria Air will take, five will be the -300 variant, with the other two being the -100 variant.

The first A220 for the carrier will feature 143 seats in a dual-class setup, consisting of eight in Business Class and the rest in Economy.

Airbus said the following in the release earlier today:

“As of the end of May 2023, Airbus has received close to 800 orders from 30 customers for the A220, of which 265 have been delivered.”

“The A220 is already in successful service with 16 airlines worldwide. To date, more than 90 million passengers have enjoyed the A220.”

“The fleet is currently flying on over 1,100 routes and over 375 destinations worldwide.”

“The A220 supports Bulgaria Air’s engagement towards the aviation decarbonization journey as it delivers up to 25% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous generation aircraft, and 50% lower NOx emissions than industry standards.”

“In addition, the aircraft noise footprint is reduced by 50% compared to previous-generation aircraft.”

Overall, this is a big step for Bulgaria Air, as the next stage of its growth can now begin, especially as more deliveries of the type occur moving forward.
