Australia’s newest low-cost airline Bonza takes to the Aussie outback with the introduction of Gold Coast to Mount Isa flights. The new route starts on 5 December and will run twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Mount Isa becomes Bonza’s 19th destination on its current route map and cements its ongoing commitment to regional Queensland.

Mount Isa & Regional Travel

Bonza’s CEO, Tim Jordan accompanied the inaugural Mount Isa service to make the announcement. He expressed his enthusiasm for the new route and highlighted the positive impact it would have on both the Gold Coast and Mount Isa regions.

The new service is set to revolutionize travel options, opening up diverse holiday choices and bolstering domestic tourism in both regions.

Moreover, it will provide Mount Isa’s Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) workers with the opportunity to connect with their loved ones or indulge in a well-deserved break at affordable fares.

Affordable Travel

Jordan emphasized Bonza’s commitment to making air travel affordable for all Australians. “Affordable air travel has arrived in Mount Isa,” he declared.

“At Bonza, we’re dedicated to connecting more Aussies to their own backyard, and this new route will attract more tourists to Mount Isa from the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales. It also offers Mount Isa locals the chance to visit the Gold Coast without breaking the bank.”

Partnership with Queensland Airports

Key to securing this exciting new route was Bonza’s partnership with Queensland Airports Limited (QAL), the entity responsible for owning and operating airports in three Bonza destinations – Gold Coast, Townsville, and now, Mount Isa.

Jordan acknowledged the instrumental role of airport partners, saying, “Connecting communities across Australia would not be possible without our airport partners, so we are grateful for QAL’s support in helping us deliver low-cost fares for the many, not the few.”

Economic Boost

Aside from enhancing travel options, Bonza’s Gold Coast base is set to deliver substantial economic benefits to the region.

The airline is already in the process of recruiting over 100 professionals, including pilots and cabin crew members, who will be proud to represent the brand and call the Gold Coast home.

Jordan added, “We’re recruiting for pilots and cabin crew legends who will get to don our eye-catching ‘wear it your way’ uniform with pride – it doesn’t get more Bonza than that.”

Boosting Regional Connectivity

Amelia Evans, the Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Airports Limited, hailed the new service as a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity across regional Queensland.

“The commencement of this direct service between the Gold Coast and Mount Isa is a testament to the ongoing efforts of our team and Bonza’s commitment to improving regional connectivity,” said Ms. Evans.

She also highlighted the affordability factor, stating, “Bonza’s new connection offers a convenient and affordable option for travelers and contributes to a broader reduction in the cost of regional airfares.”
