Avianca Airlines has been officially named as the most punctual global airline in 2023.

The recognition was accredited by the aviation data firm Cirium. The event also featured the unveiling of an Airbus A320 with a commemorative livery highlighting this award.

Commemorative Livery Unveiled

Avianca’s latest accomplishment was celebrated at an event held at the Simón Bolívar hangar in Bogotá.  An A320 adorned with a special commemorative livery was unveiled for the occasion.

Jeremy Bowen, Cirium’s CEO, personally presented the award to the Avianca team. He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining on-time performance (OTP) amidst external factors.

The carrier faced off against weather, staffing fluctuations, and mechanical issues, especially with the surge in demand experienced in 2023.

Bowen highlighted Avianca’s exceptional OTP of 85.73%, edging out the competition by a narrow 0.2%.

OTP Rises Above 2019 Level

However, Bowen emphasized a more significant achievement: Avianca’s substantial improvement compared to pre-pandemic times.

The airline’s 2023 OTP is a remarkable 10% higher than 2019. It also comes in as 2% better than 2022, showcasing a clear upward trend.

“The change in performance is truly remarkable!” Bowen remarked.

Frederico Pedreira, CEO of Avianca, attributed this success to the dedication of the airline’s over 14,000 employees. They worked tirelessly, alongside authorities and partners, to ensure on-time arrivals and safe journeys for passengers with their luggage.

He also expressed gratitude to the over 32 million customers who entrusted Avianca with their travels in 2023.

“This recognition positions us among world-class airlines and establishes Colombia as a benchmark in the international aviation industry,” Pedreira proudly stated.
