US low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines has announced new connections between Florida, Southern Connecticut and North Carolina.

To be specific, the routes beginning are:

  1. Melbourne, FL (MLB) – Raleigh-Durham, NC (RDU)
  2. Melbourne, FL (MLB) – Tweed-New Haven, CT (HVN)
  3. Daytona Beach (DAB) – Tweed-New Haven, CT (HVN)

What makes these new routes significant is they are exclusive between these two city pairs, as no other airline currently flies the routes.

As far as frequencies are concerned, both routes will operate twice weekly as follows:

  1. MLB – RDU begins June 23rd operating on Mondays and Fridays
  2. MLB – HVN begins June 21st operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays
  3. DAB – HVN begins June 22nd operating on Thursdays and Sundays

All of the routes will be served by Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) aircraft. Avelo currently has a fleet matrix of 15 737s split between 7 -700 variants and 8 -800 variants.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO, Andrew Levy expressed his excitement for the route launches saying: “Melbourne – its time to say hello to Avelo! We look forward to introducing Florida’s Space Coast to Avelo’s low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service.”

“With hometown airport access to Southern Connecticut and North Carolina’s Research Triangle, travel from MLB is now easier than ever.”

“With these exclusive nonstop routes, it is also now easy for Southern Connecticut and Research Triangle-area residents to experience all that Melbourne has to offer.”

Melbourne and the Space Coast praise the launch

Praising the announcement, Melbourne Executive Director, Greg Donovan, A.A.E. said, “We are so excited to welcome Avelo to MLB. Avelo is an outstanding new brand that delivers value and dependability for our travellers.”

“We believe these routes will be incredibly popular, both within our Space Coast community and with visitors to Florida. Our airport is enthusiastic to offer this new, nonstop service connecting Connecticut, North Carolina and central Florida.”

“What a great opportunity to land a great service with amazing ticket prices combined with unparalleled convenience.”

Space Coast Office of Tourism Executive Director Peter Cranis said, “We are extremely excited about Avelo coming to the Space Coast. This opens up to great markets for us and is hopefully just the beginning of a great long term partnership with them”.

Rapidly expanding out of Raleigh Durham and New Haven

Avelo’s new additions out of both New Haven and Raleigh Durham boosts the airline’s overall presence at the 2 airports a fair amount.

In New Haven, Avelo will now serve 17 destinations across 7 states, with 8 of these being Florida routes.

As for Raleigh Durham the airline operates 11 routes across 5 states with 7 of them being to Florida alone.

This clearly shows that Florida is Avelo’s east coast target market, so launching these 3 new routes clearly makes sense for the airline, as they should yield a lot for the budget airline.
