Ascend Airways, the UK’s newest airline specializing in ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) operations, has successfully completed its inaugural commercial flight.

This occasion marks the official launch of Ascend Airways’ operations.

Ascend operated the maiden flight on behalf of fellow Avia Solutions Group company Chapman Freeborn Airchartering Limited.

It took off from London Southend Airport on Friday, April 26th aboard a freshly painted Boeing 737-800 (G-HODL).

Avia Solutions Group Growth Plans

This successful maiden voyage follows the recent acquisition of an updated Air Operator Certificate (AOC), Type A Operating License.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) then granted Ascend Airways a Route License. These crucial approvals paved the way for Ascend Airways to begin commercial flights.

Ascend Airways is a proud addition to Avia Solutions Group’s (ASG) growing portfolio of ACMI airlines.

ASG, the world’s largest ACMI provider with a fleet exceeding 212 aircraft, is actively expanding its global reach.

The company currently holds twelve AOCs internationally and aims to establish or acquire four new airlines. The new carriers will operate across Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, and Malaysia by the end of 2024.

Comments on Maiden Flight

Tony Carder, Commercial Director at Ascend Airways, gave comment on the recent inaugural flight. “We are thrilled to have commenced commercial operations with our first charter flight for Chapman Freeborn Airchartering.”

“This is a landmark day for our company, the beginning of an exciting journey. We’re ready for a busy summer season as damp lease operations commence in May.”

“This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Ascend Airways team over the past nine months. Everyone played a crucial role in making this dream a reality.”

Neil Smith from Chapman Freeborn Airchartering also shared his thoughts. “It was a true honor to collaborate with Ascend Airways on their inaugural flight.”

“Our client was extremely impressed with the service from start to finish. We extend our sincere thanks to Alastair Willson, and the entire Ascend Airways team. And especially the flight crew for a job exceptionally well done.”

“We are delighted to see another UK operator join the skies and wish them all the best for the future.”

British Aviation Heritage: The Ascend Airways Brand

The distinctive British Civil Air Ensign, prominently displayed alongside the registration number on each Ascend Airways aircraft, serves as the inspiration for the airline’s brand identity.

The British Civil Air Ensign, a flag rich in history, served a dual purpose. The flag flew at civil aviation facilities throughout the UK and also adorned British-registered civil aircraft.

Established in 1931, the Civil Air Ensign represents a cornerstone of British aviation and holds a significant place in the air operator’s identity.

The ensign features a light blue field emblazoned with a dark blue Saint George’s Cross outlined in white. The Union Flag takes a place of honor in the top left corner (canton) of the symbol.
