American Airlines has this week unveiled new routes for the 2024 season, including the proposal of New York-Tokyo flights and an expansion of Caribbean & Latin America flights.
Providing the new route to Asia gets approved by the U.S DoT, this will provide some competition against the likes of Japan Airlines and ANA.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
American Airlines’ Proposed New York-Tokyo Service…
American Airlines has proposed the following schedule for the new service between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda Airport:
|From||To||Departure time||Arrival time||Aircraft type|
|New York (JFK)||Tokyo Haneda (HND)||10:00 a.m.||1:05 p.m. (next day)||Boeing 777-200|
|HND||JFK||3:05 p.m.||3:10 p.m.||Boeing 777-200|
Commenting on the route proposal was Molly Wilkinson, the airline’s VP of Regulatory & International Affairs:
“American looks forward to presenting our competitive application to provide new and enhanced service to Tokyo’s convenient Haneda Airport”.
“This will be the only nonstop service from JFK to Tokyo operated by a U.S. airline. Joining American’s existing flights from Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles, JFK to Tokyo service adds an East Coast gateway for flights to Haneda, while offering the largest metropolitan area in the U.S. more options for travel to one of the most important business hubs in the world.”
Expansion of Caribbean Services, Tulum Gets Increased Treatment…
Away from the Tokyo-New York services, American Airlines will also be expanding its presence into the Caribbean & Latin America for the 2024 schedule. One of the focuses behind this is enhanced services to Tulum.
For Tulum, the proposed scheduling is as follows:
|From||Service begins||Service notes|
|Charlotte (CLT)||March 28, 2024||One daily year-round flight|
|Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW)||March 28, 2024||Two daily year-round flights|
|Miami (MIA)||March 28, 2024||One daily year-round flight|
As for the Caribbean itself, American Airlines will be expanding the following services to either daily or twice-daily from June 5:
|CLT||Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI)||Expand to daily service|
|CLT||Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)||Expand to daily service|
|CLT||St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (STT)||Expand to two daily flights|
|DFW||Guatemala City, Guatemala (GUA)||Expand to two daily flights|
|DFW||San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO)||Expand to two daily flights|
|MIA||Antigua (ANU)||Expand to two daily flights|
|MIA||Anguilla (AXA)||Expand to two daily flights|
|MIA||Georgetown, Guyana (GEO)||Expand to two daily flights|
|MIA||Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (POS)||Expand to two daily flights|
|MIA||Providenciales, Turks and Caicos (PLS)||Expand to three daily flights|
|MIA||Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (POP)||Expand to two daily flights|
All eyes will be on the carrier to see how this expansion in the Caribbean & Latin America goes, as well as when they will get the approval for the New York-Tokyo Haneda flights.
