Earlier this week saw American Airlines announce an expansion of its Winter schedule into Mexico and the Caribbean.

There will be two brand new routes and expanded frequencies on 21 routes, showing the significant demand that they are currently going through.

Commenting on this expansion was Jose A. Freig, the VP of Operations and Commercial for Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America at American Airlines:

“This coming winter, we’re looking forward to adding more service to the destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean that our customers want to visit, including popular spots like Cancun, Montego Bay, and Punta Cana, as well as our newest destination, Tortola”.

“We are proud to strengthen our lead as the largest U.S. airline in the region, with more flights and seats to more destinations than any other single carrier or partnership.”

From its operations in Nashville, Tennessee & Cincinnati, American Airlines will be providing more flights to the following destinations in Mexico:

These new routes will complement the airline’s more than 35 peak-day flights to Cancun, including the most recent announcement of a second daily service from Austin, Texas (AUS), starting Nov. 5.

American also plans to increase service to seven popular destinations in Mexico from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), offering more than 50 daily departures from DFW to Mexico.

Finally, from Miami, services into the Caribbean will also be increased, with the planned upgrades as follows:

DestinationService Notes
Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (POS)Increase to two daily flights
Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI)Increase to two daily flights
Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS)Increase to two daily flights

What remains clear is that American Airlines is definitely ramping up its operations ahead of the Winter season, where these destinations are typically busier due to the all-year heat.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see how the planned increases go down with passengers, and whether we could see the same again for Winter 2024/25.
