AirAsia X (AAX) marked a significant milestone this week, becoming the sole airline offering direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Xi’an.

The inaugural flight, D7 346, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) at 7:05 pm on April 4, 2024, with a full passenger load.

The excitement continued as the flight landed at Xi’an Xianyang International Airport at 12:30 am local time on April 5, 2024.

AirAsia X Expands Presence in China

This new route adds Xi’an as AAX’s fifth destination in China, joining Beijing (Daxing), Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Chengdu (Tianfu).

This expansion underscores AAX’s commitment to being the largest foreign low-cost carrier in China.

AirAsia X CEO, Benyamin Ismail, expressed his delight. “We’re thrilled to resume service to this prominent Chinese city, making AAX the only airline with direct connections between Kuala Lumpur and Xi’an,” he remarked.

“Flourishing economic cooperation between Malaysia and China, bolstered by visa-free initiatives, makes us confident that this route will be a hit with leisure travelers. It will also significantly boost tourism and trade opportunities for both countries.”

“We’re excited to keep expanding our footprint in China,” Ismail continued. “We’re committed to supporting the government’s goal of welcoming five to seven million tourists from China this year and contributing to the success of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.”

To celebrate this achievement, AAX is offering special fares for travelers eager to explore the captivating city of Xi’an.

Between April 15 and 21, 2024, book your one-way flight from Kuala Lumpur to Xi’an with all-in fares starting from RM488.

These promotional fares are valid for immediate travel until March 31, 2025. Flights can be booked on airasia.com or the AirAsia MOVE app.
