Air Mauritius to resume direct Delhi flight services

A resumed Air Mauritius service will mean travellers will now be able to fly directly between Delhi and Mauritius. Recommencing on May 3, Air Mauritius has a good reason to fly this route

Mauritius is one of the prime tourist destinations in Africa, home to serene white sandy beaches, clear and turquoise blue ocean, and also has a huge Indian diaspora.

To anoint the resumption of direct flights from the Indian capital to the Indian archipelago, Air Mauritius in conjunction with the association with the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, organized a Networking Gala in Delhi’s Hotel Imperial on 14 April 2023. 

The flight 


The flag carrier of the Republic of Mauritius, Air Mauritius, will resume its direct operations to and from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi as of May 3 2023.

Air Mauritius plans to fly bi-weekly to Delhi using the ultra-efficient A330 aircraft. The twin-aisle workhorse features a Business and an Economy class configuration with a seating capacity of 254 seats.

Flight time is expected to be 7 hours and 30 minutes. Air Mauritius is already known to the Indian market. The carrier already operates a six-weekly direct flight to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

The Gala event


At this week’s event, there were many high-profile players present, including H.E Mr. H. Dillum, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to India, Mr. Krešimir Kučko, Chief Executive Officer of Air Mauritius, Mr. Laurent Recoura.

Also present were Chief Commercial Officer of Air Mauritius, Mr. Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority and other important guests from the travel industry, top media personnel, and other delegates.

Stronger bond


CEO of Air Mauritius, Krešimir Kučko,  stated, “We are excited to resume our operations in Delhi after three years of absence. India and Mauritius share a special relationship that is built on the foundation of people-to-people ties.”

“Both India and Mauritius are united by culture, ancestry, language, and geography. This April, Air Mauritius is proudly commemorating it’s 50 years of presence in India.”

“New avenues are being explored with Air India to offer seamless connectivity via Delhi as well as Mumbai to/from several destinations in India.”

Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, Arvind Bundhun, while mingling with esteemed guests, stated, “The long-awaited flight from Delhi to Mauritius is a major milestone facilitating travelers from the northern part of India to commute.”

“We are thankful to Air Mauritius for this initiative which will boost demand. We foresee a steep rise in the footfalls on our land.”

H.E. Mr. Haymandoyal Dillum, High Commissioner of the Republic of Mauritius to the Republic of India, stated with excitement that, ‘With the addition of two direct flights to New Delhi, Air Mauritius, the National carrier of Mauritius will strengthen its network in India.”

“Enhanced connectivity will certainly boost tourism, trade, and business exchanges, thus bringing Mauritius-India relations to the next level. This is yet another milestone in our privileged bilateral relations.”

Flight schedule


According to the schedule, the airline will operate two flights per week to the Indian capital. The following are the flights: 

Inbound flight MK 745 DELHI-MAURITIUS Thursdays & Sundays, departing at 08:00 and arriving at 14: 00 local time

Outbound flight MK 744 MAURITIUS – DELHI Wednesdays & Saturdays departing at 21:15 and arriving at 06:15 on the following day.

Bottom line


The resuming of direct flights to Delhi shows that there is high traffic demand between India and the African country.

The charm and beauty that Mauritius offers, plus a healthy population of Indian diaspora in Mauritius, allows the flag carrier to relaunch its Delhi operations alongside flights to Mumbai.
