Premium economy class

Recently, Air India launched a new product, the brand new Premium Economy class for passengers. This new product will allow travellers to opt for a comfortable experience at an affordable price.

It will offer immaculate inflight service, extra ground service before the flight, and a superior comfortable hard product on board.

For travellers who can not wait to try out the product, Air India has opened the sale of its new cabin from 15th May 2023. This marks the first-ever airline from India to offer the product.

Initially, customers may experience the premium economy class product on flights to the United States with Air India’s Boeing 777-200LR on selected routes: Bengaluru-San Francisco, Mumbai-San Francisco, and Mumbai-New York.

Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of, Air India, Mr. Campbell Wilson, commented on the launching of the premium economy class:

“The popularity of Premium Economy has grown among travelers around the world, as people are increasingly opting for upgraded, yet affordable flying experiences.”

“We are delighted to introduce a distinctive Premium Economy experience for our customers on select flights for now, with a plan to extend it to many more routes soon, as we rapidly expand and modernize our fleet.”

“This is another step forward in our sincere, ongoing effort to transform Air India into a modern, global carrier of world-class products and service standards.”

Added convenience

The airline’s premium economy class product offers a superior product to economy class and will elevate the passenger’s experience traveling between the United States and India.

Passengers can secure seats by paying an extra surcharge over Economy class tickets to fly with much more comfort, more space, legroom, privacy, and elevated ground service, including fast track at airports, where customers can check in at designated counters.

Priority luggage tags are also given out to passengers for added convenience and will be given priority boarding amongst premium class passengers.

The seat difference

The seat can be distinguished from the economy class seats, as being wider seats.

Air India’s latest Premium Economy class seats on its ‘flagship’ Boeing 777-200LR aircraft will come with 48 leather-upholstered memory foam seats that are 19 inches in width, 38 inches in pitch, and 5 inches of recline, with adjustable and convenient leg and footrest.

The headrest is winged, which means guests can comfortably sleep without disturbing their neighbours. Moreover, the seats themselves will offer superior legroom, which will enable customers to rest and work in comfort.

In addition, passengers will also be gifted an amenity bag from TUMI, designed especially for Air India. Inside the amenity kit, a pair of flights and eye masks, MALIN+GOETZ lip moisturizer, and a pen and carpet slippers.

These items are enough to pamper premium economy class flight passengers. For indulging in the entertainment systems, passengers will receive noise-cancelling headphones.

Dining

Dining is an important component in improving the experience. Customers will be warmly welcomed by a welcome drink, served on a silver tray, and a menu card showing what would be offered onboard.

The main meal itself will consist of a three-meal choice. For the mains, customers will indulge in a ceramic casserole with fine chinaware, served alongside appetizers and desserts.

Drinks are also included, ranging from coffee to an alcoholic selection.
