It is understood the Indian Government will tell the Canadian Government to enhance security at Toronto & Vancouver following a security threat made to Air India flights.

The threat came from Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), who have told passengers to avoid the airline’s flights on November 19, stating that lives may be at risk on that day.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

It is understood that a prominent member of the SFJ, Gurpatwant Pannun, released a video warning Sikhs in the Punjabi area not to fly with Air India, particularly on services to Toronto & Vancouver.

Within this, Pannun also called for a “global blockade” on the carrier’s services to Vancouver and London, with Toronto also on the list for this, as per Aviation A2z.

As per the Hindustan Times, they approached the High Commissioner to Ottawa, Sanjay Kumar Verma, who has said that he is going to take this up with the authorities in Canada:

“We shall take up the threat against Air India flights originating from and terminating in Canada, with the concerned Canadian authorities.”

At this stage, it is unclear whether Air India will cancel such services to Toronto & Vancouver from New Delhi, with no such indication raised by them publicly thus far.

All eyes will be on the carrier to see whether they will make a decision to cancel flights, or whether they will proceed with them as normal, but just with the added layer of security.

Regardless, such threats will be taken seriously by the authorities and the airline, with all eyes to see how this pans out on November 19.

This remains a developing story.
