As CA859, the first Air China service between Beijing and Istanbul departed on December 29 at 0216 local time, and arrived into the Turkish airport at 0836 local time.

Flights between the two cities with the airline operate on a thrice-weekly service using their Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

As per Xinhua, it is understood that these new flights into China from Turkey are part of bilateral agreement, where Turkish carriers will also get to operate these flights as well.

The other three Chinese carriers operating into Istanbul as well as Air China from Turkey are as follows:

  • China Eastern Airlines to Shanghai Pudong.
  • China Southern Airlines to Beijing-Daxing.
  • Sichuan Airlines to Chengdu-Tianfu.

What remains clear is that China will now become a new emerging market for Turkey, especially with the plethora of services already on offer.

All eyes will be on whether this will expand going further into 2024, as well as on the Turkey side through Turkish Airlines to see whether we could see significant frequency increases for the Summer.

But for now, all eyes will be on the airline’s service from Beijing and it’s performance going into the future.
