Aeromexico achieves strong gains in September 2023

Mexican flag carrier Aeromexico has released its September 2023 performance statistics, showing strong gains in all of the key performance indicators.

Notable was the overall passenger growth, both internationally and particularly domestically. The expansion of the Aeromexico-Delta Joint Cooperation Agreement (JCA) is further set to enhance transborder services with the United States.

Passenger Numbers


Overall, Aeromexico transporting an impressive 1 million and 959 thousand passengers in September 2023. This figure represented an 8.3% year-on-year increase over the comparable period last year.

International and Domestic Growth

Breaking down the numbers, international passengers increased by 3.9%, while domestic passengers witnessed an even more substantial growth of 10.1%.

This diversification in passenger numbers showcases Aeromexico’s appeal both within and beyond Mexican borders.

Delving deeper, international ASKs experienced a remarkable growth of 10.8%. In contrast, domestic capacity showed a slight decrease of 1.3% year-on-year.

Global Reach: International Demand

On the international front, Aeromexico’s global reach became more evident as international demand surged by 13.6% compared to September 2022.

This growth reflects the increasing popularity of Aeromexico among international travelers.

Increased Demand at Home

Even within the domestic market, Aeromexico experienced a significant demand increase, boasting a 6.2% rise compared to September 2022.

This indicates a strong bond between Aeromexico and its loyal domestic customer base.

Capacity Enhancement


Capacity plays a pivotal role in an airline’s growth trajectory, and Aeromexico’s strategy here was no less impressive. The total capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASKs), recorded a 6.1% year-on-year increase.

The demand for Aeromexico’s services, measured in passenger-kilometers (RPKs), witnessed an impressive uptick of 10.8% year-on-year.

Load Factor Climbs


Aeromexico’s load factor for September 2023 reached an impressive 85.7%, marking a 3.7 percentage point increase compared to September 2022.

Breaking it down further, international load factor increased by 2.1 percentage points, while the domestic load factor showed an even more substantial growth of 5.8 percentage points.

These improvements underscore the airline’s ability to efficiently fill its flights, delivering value to both passengers and shareholders.

Aeromexico-Delta JCA Expansion


Aeromexico has always been forward-looking, and this is evident in their recent announcement. The Aeromexico-Delta Joint Cooperation Agreement (JCA) is set to expand its operations between Mexico and the United States, promising more exciting opportunities for travelers.

New Routes, New Horizons

Starting in January 2024, the Aeromexico-Delta JCA will introduce 17 new routes, connecting seven airports in Mexico to nine destinations in the U.S.

What makes this even more enticing is that all these flights will be supported by Delta codeshare, ensuring a seamless and comprehensive travel experience.

By 2024, the Aeromexico-Delta JCA plans to offer over 90 daily flights between Mexico and the United States, spanning nearly 60 routes.

This ambitious expansion aims to provide travelers with even more choices and convenience, cementing Aeromexico’s position as a leader in the aviation industry.
