UPS has started out 2024 with a double-digit drop in flights operated, as per data observed by RadarBox.com.
Such percentages are compared to the same period last year, with the carrier now at pre-pandemic levels, more or less.
Without further ado, let’s get into it…
UPS Experiences Double-Digit Drop in Flights Operated…
[monsterinsights_popular_posts_inline]
For January 30-February 6, UPS operated 480 flights, based on a seven-day rolling average provided by the flight tracking company.
This represents a drop of 12.09% compared to the same period last year, and is only six movements above pre-pandemic levels.
Below is the last four weeks’ worth of data based on the carrier:
Date | 2019 Numbers | 2020 Numbers | 2021 Numbers | 2022 Numbers | 2023 Numbers | 2024 Numbers | Percentage Difference (2024 vs. 2023) |
January 2-9 | 450 movements | 416 movements | 198 movements | 467 movements | 378 movements | 376 movements | -0.53% |
January 9-16 | 484 movements | 543 movements | 581 movements | 554 movements | 477 movements | 466 movements | -2.31% |
January 16-23 | 474 movements | 531 movements | 563 movements | 554 movements | 477 movements | 418 movements | -12.37% |
January 23-30 | 474 movements | 521 movements | 568 movements | 569 movements | 551 movements | 481 movements | -12.70% |
What we can see from the data is that UPS no longer has the same level of demand experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is seen through the uptick in flights from 2020-2022.
Looking ahead, all eyes will be on what 2024 will look like for the carrier, as well as whether they could get the movement numbers back into the 500s.
