United Boeing 787 Makes Emergency Landing in San Francisco

Last week, a United Airlines Boeing 787 operating a flight between Los Angeles and Hong Kong made an emergency landing in San Francisco.

Information has surfaced regarding the incident at hand, with a cause for this identified.

Here is what we know so far…

United UA801 – Los Angeles to Hong Kong: San Francisco Emergency Landing…

United Airlines flight UA801, which was involved in the emergency landing in San Francisco is a routine scheduled flight between Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

The aircraft involved in this incident is registered as N15969.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N15969 is a 7.2 year old Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

It was delivered to the airline in February 2017.

Of the 787-9 variant, United Airlines has 38 in the fleet.

Furthermore, of that 38, all but two are in active service, offering an average fleet age of 6.7 years.

United Airlines flight UA841 departed Los Angeles at 1041 local time on April 19 and initially climbed out to Hong Kong.

The Boeing 787 passed San Francisco initially, before making a u-turn and subsequent rapid descent into the airport.

It is understood the aircraft landed safely without further incident after around one hour and 14 minutes in the air.

Reporting from The Aviation Herald mentions that the crew received a smoke indication in the cargo hold.

Grounded for Two Days…

Data from RadarBox shows that the United Airlines Boeing 787 was grounded in San Francisco for around two days following the emergency landing.

N15969 re-entered commercial service on April 21, operating a flight to Singapore.

It is expected to operate the return back to SFO today, and will continue on to Newark on April 23.

No further incidents have been reported with the aircraft since this emergency landing.
