Also, the aircraft involved in the incident was N76062.

As per data from Planespotters.net, N76062 is a 22.3 year old Boeing 767-400ER that started out life with Continental Airlines in March 2002.

Following the merger in October 2010, the aircraft was transferred over to the United Airlines register.

Furthermore, of the 767-400ER variant, UA have 16 of them in the fleet.

Of that 16, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 22.8 years.

Moreover, the entire fleet for mainline United Airlines looks like the following:

Such information came from the United Airlines flight status time, which gave a new departure time for the Rome-Washington route.

As it stands, it is unclear what the actual technical issue was onboard the aircraft.

What we do know is that it was serious enough to prompt a u-turn back to the Italian airport.

At the time of writing (18/6/24 @ 1805 UK time), the United Airlines Boeing 767 is still stuck in Rome.

It is unclear when it will actually depart to Washington, or whether the aircraft will be grounded.

Furthermore, this is all dependent on whether the technical issue can be fixed by engineers on the ground.

If it isn’t, then the flight may have to be cancelled if there are no spare aircraft nearby to operate the segment.

As soon as we have more information pertinent to this, then we will update you accordingly.

For now, this remains a developing story pending additional updates that come through.
