It has emerged that a Safair Boeing 737-800 lost a wheel from it’s landing gear after departure from Johannesburg.

More information has surfaced following this incident.

Safair flight FA212 is a routine scheduled flight between Johannesburg and Cape Town.

The aircraft involved in this incident is registered as ZS-FGE.

As per data from Planespotters.net, ZS-FGE is a 16.6 year old Boeing 737-800 that started out life with GOL in October 2007.

By December 2019, the aircraft was handed over to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest.

Furthermore, in October 2020, Safair took delivery of the Boeing 737-800.

FA212 departed Johannesburg at 1149 local time yesterday morning and initially climbed out to Cape Town.

It was at this moment that the crew were notified about the aircraft losing a wheel from it’s landing gear.

From there, the aircraft entered a series of holds before making a return back to Johannesburg.

It is understood the aircraft landed safely without further incident, but videos and photos have been released following this.

Video and photos from the Safair Boeing 737-800 in Johannesburg have been released.

Photos show the extent of the damage caused after touchdown with the missing wheel.

Furthermore, video has also been noted of the aircraft’s landing as it was slowing down.

As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood that the wheel was recorded within the perimeter of the airport.

All eyes will be on the investigation that will be launched into this incident to see why the wheel fell off.
