A Vueling flight from Barcelona declared an emergency whilst inbound to Manchester on 15 April 2024. The cause of the emergency declaration was reported to be an engine vibration.

Vueling flight VY8748, an Airbus A321-200, was in the latter stages of its approach to Manchester when the issue arose.

The flight had descended below 10,000 feet under vectoring for the approach to Manchester when it declared the emergency.

Having conducted an initial holding procedure, flight VY8748 then squawked transponder code 7700 before continuing with its approach into Manchester Airport (MAN).

The cause of the emergency declaration was reported to be heavy vibrations from the aircraft’s left hand engine. The flight subsequently landed at Manchester without further incident.

Flight data for the service shows that flight VY8748 made a departure out of Barcelona El Prat airport at 1309 local time on 15 April.

The flight then set course normally, climbing to FL340 (34,000 feet) on the northerly route to the United Kingdom.

The letdown and descent procedure was then conducted normally, until the later stage of the approach. As the aircraft descended below 10,000 it then held at 8000 feet, conducting one orbit of a holding pattern.

Upon exiting the holding pattern the aircraft declared the general emergency with squawk code 7700. The flight then continued descent and approach into Manchester.
