Star Alliance, along with its member airlines, is proud to commemorate a decade of successful operations at Heathrow’s Terminal 2.

Since 2014, this terminal has served as the central hub for 23 Star Alliance carriers, facilitating transfers and operations for over 15 million passengers annually.

This translates to nearly 20% of the total seat capacity available at the airport.

Importance of Heathrow Hub

“Heathrow holds immense importance as a hub for our member airlines,” said Theo Panagiotoulias, Star Alliance CEO.

“Our combined offerings at the shared terminal allow us to deliver seamless travel experiences for thousands of passengers daily.”

“On behalf of our members, I express our gratitude to Heathrow for their decade-long support, which has helped create superior travel experiences year after year.”

The “Move Under One Roof” initiative, launched in 2014, played a pivotal role in consolidating Star Alliance airlines under one location, forming a true alliance hub.

This strategic move has significantly streamlined airport operations and enhanced the passenger experience by enabling easier connections between Star Alliance member airlines.

Heathrow Airport Responds

“Heathrow is thrilled to celebrate a decade of providing excellent service to passengers traveling through Terminal 2,” remarked Ross Baker, Chief Customer Officer at Heathrow.

“This terminal was previously recognized as the ‘Best Terminal in the World’ at the World Sky Awards by Skytrax.”

“In collaboration with our partners, including Star Alliance and its member airlines, we’ve witnessed almost 73 million passengers travel through Terminal 2’s doors, enjoying the world-class retail and food and beverage options available.”

“Reaching this milestone allows us to reflect on a decade of achievements while also looking forward to the next ten years as we continue to build an extraordinary, future-proof airport.”

Star Alliance Operations

Passengers are greeted by prominent Star Alliance branding upon arrival at the airline check-in counters in Terminal 2 Departures.

Alongside member airlines, Star Alliance offers a range of services for a smooth airport experience, including:

  • Gold Track Security: This benefit provides Star Alliance Gold status holders with faster security access through dedicated lanes. It applies regardless of their travel class.
  • Baggage Tracking: This service allows passengers to track their luggage throughout their journey, offering peace of mind.

Over 85,000 bags on Star Alliance member flights are scanned daily at London Heathrow.

  • Star Connection Centre: This service prioritizes passengers with tight connections, providing them with fast-track access through the airport.

The Heathrow Star Connection Centre expedites over 1,000 passengers and 750 bags monthly. This represents a cost savings for member airlines and an improved travel experience for passengers.

  • Complimentary Heathrow Express Upgrade: Star Alliance Gold members and one accompanying passenger traveling together can now enjoy exclusive complimentary upgrades.

This permits an upgrade to the Business First cabin on Heathrow Express between the airport and Paddington Station. (This is due to start in June 2024).
