WestJet and Virgin Atlantic have announced a significant expansion of their codeshare agreement. Set to take effect in winter 2024, the arrangement will support a wealth of new international destinations beyond Europe.

This strategic partnership notably strengthens connectivity for Canadians. It unlocks a wider world of travel possibilities, and marks a major milestone for WestJet’s global network expansion.

WestJet & Virgin Atlantic Codeshare

Effective this winter, WestJet guests can book single-stop itineraries on a single ticket through the airline’s website.

This enhanced connectivity allows for seamless travel from Calgary via Virgin Atlantic’s global hub at London Heathrow (LHR) to a range of captivating destinations.

The expanded network encompasses major cities in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru), South Africa (Johannesburg, Cape Town), and Nigeria (Lagos).

In addition, the ever-popular Dubai, and the idyllic Maldives (pending regulatory approval) will also be accessible.

Building on a Strong Foundation

This development builds upon the existing codeshare agreement established between WestJet and Virgin Atlantic in 2019.

The expanded partnership leverages Virgin Atlantic’s robust international network, providing WestJet passengers with a significantly broader range of choices without compromising on a smooth travel experience.

Passengers can book their entire journey, including baggage transfers and WestJet Dollar earning opportunities, on a single ticket, ensuring a stress-free travel experience.

Future Collaboration and Enhanced Benefits

The strategic alliance doesn’t stop there. By summer 2025, WestJet will provide domestic connectivity to Virgin Atlantic’s newly announced route between Toronto-Pearson and London Heathrow.

This collaboration further strengthens the combined network, offering even greater convenience for travelers across Canada.

Additionally, WestJet Rewards and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club are working towards launching a reciprocal frequent flyer program in 2025.

This development will allow members to earn and redeem points on both airlines’ networks, maximizing the value of their memberships.

A New Step for WestJet

The expanded codeshare agreement represents a significant milestone for WestJet. This marks the first time the airline has offered connectivity beyond Europe through London Heathrow.

This strategic move unlocks entirely new regions for WestJet passengers, opening doors to explore the vibrant cultures and landscapes of India, Africa, and the Middle East.

WestJet, established in 1994, is Canada’s second-largest airline and a proud domestic carrier.
