Without further ado, let’s get into it…

It is understood the official entry-into-service date of the Iberia Airbus A321XLR will be November 14 this year.

Also, the configuration will see 14 seats in Business Class, followed by 168 seats in Economy.

The first route the aircraft will operate will be the Madrid-Boston flights.

It is understood from November 14, it will replace the Airbus A330 on three of the four weekly flights on offer.

December 2024 will see an increase from four to seven weekly, with the A321XLR operating the aircraft on all frequencies.

Then, on January 15, 2025, the aircraft will begin to operate the Madrid-Washington Dulles flights.

It is understood that this service will operate on a six times per week basis from that date.

Why Is This Significant?: The Airline is the Launch Customer…

Iberia was revealed to be the launch customer of the Airbus A321XLR earlier last month.

This comes following the news that Aer Lingus has had the honour removed following union disputes over hours and pay.

It was revealed back in February that they were touted to be the launch customer, but this didn’t materialise.

Furthermore, the news from Iberia loading in flights for the Airbus A321XLR confirms this move further.

Overall…

This moment from Iberia reflects an exciting moment for the team at Airbus and the A321XLR.

We are just five months away from seeing the first commercial flights of the Xtra Long Range variant of the A321.

Overall, it will be interesting to see how the aircraft performs on a commercial basis, especially with that extra fuel tank.

But for now, all we can do now is wait for certification, the subsequent delivery to the Spanish carrier, and then the first flights.
