Delta Air Lines has this week revealed that starting pay will rise to $19 per hour, with raises to employees worldwide also provided.

This comes following an annual $500m investment made by the airline and continues on from their profit sharing scheme too.

Delta Air Lines has set the minimum starting wage to $19 per hour (£15.27).

On top of this, existing employees in the company are also set to receive a five per cent raise as well.

CEO Ed Bastian released the information via a memo stating that the airline will continue “to invest in industry-leading total compensation to reward operational excellence and customer care.”

“Delta’s leading position comes thanks to a simple concept that dates back nearly a century – invest in our people first, and they will deliver great service and experiences for our customers”, he said.

“That’s exactly what you do, and it always sets us apart.”

On top of the increased minimum pay, Delta Air Lines has a set of other benefits that incentivise employees.

In 2007, they launched a profit sharing scheme, which has paid out more than $11bn since it’s inception.

For the first quarter of 2024, the airline is already tracking ahead of last year, and has acquired $125m in profit sharing so far.

Furthermore, the airline also matches up to 6% plus a 3% fixed contribution into 401(k) retirement savings.

Within that, they also pay up to $100 monthly shared rewards for achieving operational goals.

If employees get into an emergency, then there is a fund of $1,000 per person that can be tapped into.

In conclusion, the moves made by Delta Air Lines this week will no doubt be welcomed by employees.

The airline continues to understand the value of money for it’s employees, especially in difficult external financial conditions.

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on the response to this, as well as how much further it will expand.

In the short-term, all eyes will be on how much the profit sharing will be for employees by year-end.
