Wizz Air and Tirana International Airport Celebrate 4 Years of Partnership

This week, Wizz Air and Tirana International Airport have marked four years since the airline established its base in the Albanian capital.

Wizz Air and Tirana International Airport are marking four years since the airline established its base in the Albanian capital.

Since July 1, 2020, Wizz Air has provided affordable travel to nearly 5 million people from Tirana International Airport in the past year alone.

This summer, the airline will station 13 modern Airbus A320 family aircraft at its Tirana base, one of its largest and most successful hubs.

A Thriving Base in Tirana

Since its inauguration on July 1, 2020, Wizz Air’s Tirana base has experienced remarkable growth.

In the past year alone, the airline has provided nearly 5 million people with budget-friendly travel opportunities to and from Tirana International Airport.

This summer, Wizz Air will station 13 state-of-the-art Airbus A320 family aircraft at its Tirana base, solidifying its position as one of the largest and most successful hubs in the airline’s extensive network.

The impact of this partnership extends far beyond passenger numbers. Since the start of operations, Wizz Air has served a total of over 12 million passengers to and from Albania, now offering flights to more than 50 exciting destinations across 16 countries.

This extensive network has not only boosted tourism but has also played a crucial role in connecting Albania with the rest of Europe and beyond.

Expanding the Tirana Network

Wizz Air continues to expand its offerings from Tirana, introducing new and unique routes. Recent additions include a distinctive route to Valencia, Spain, currently exclusively served by Wizz Air from Tirana International Airport.

Additionally, the airline is set to launch exciting connections to Leipzig and Stuttgart in Germany starting this fall, further enhancing Albania’s connectivity with key European destinations.

In April, Wizz Air introduced its innovative WIZZ MultiPass to the Albanian market. This one-of-a-kind flight subscription service in Europe allows travelers to book one monthly flight for a fixed fee, regardless of seasonality or proximity to the departure date.

Starting at just €34.99 per month, the WIZZ MultiPass offers significant savings for frequent flyers and adds another layer of affordability to air travel from Albania.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The establishment of Wizz Air’s base in Tirana has had a profound impact on the local economy.

Beyond expanding travel opportunities, it has contributed significantly to the development of tourism, the aviation industry, and the country’s overall economic growth.

The airline has actively recruited flight and cabin crew, creating over 400 direct jobs in Tirana.

Moreover, Wizz Air’s operations have facilitated around 9,000 indirect employment opportunities through its passenger traffic numbers since the start of operations.

Tirana International Airport: A Gateway to Albania

Tirana International Airport, also known as Nënë Tereza International Airport, serves as the primary international airport of Albania.

Located just 17 kilometers northwest of Tirana, the airport has played a crucial role in the country’s development and international connectivity.

In recent years, Tirana International Airport has undergone significant upgrades and expansions to accommodate the growing number of passengers and airlines.

The airport features modern facilities, including a spacious terminal building, numerous check-in counters, and a range of shops and restaurants. Its single runway can handle various aircraft types, from small private jets to large commercial airliners.

The airport’s strategic location and improved infrastructure have made it an attractive base for airlines like Wizz Air.

This has contributed to Albania’s increasing popularity as a tourist destination and business hub. Tirana International Airport’s partnership with Wizz Air has been particularly fruitful, leading to a substantial increase in passenger numbers and route offerings.
