WestJet’s summer 2025 schedule will see a significant expansion, with network-wide growth of 10 percent and a robust 12 percent increase in domestic operations.
The airline is adding five new destinations – two within Canada and three in the United States. This is set alongside 11 new routes, reinforcing its mission to make air travel more accessible and affordable for Canadians.
John Weatherill, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at WestJet Group offered comment on the initiative. “We’re strengthening our commitment to connecting Canadians through increased domestic and international service.”
“Our domestic growth includes service to 41 airports with over 3,000 weekly flights. We’re thrilled to offer more business and leisure travel options. This helps our guests create memorable experiences while ensuring affordable and reliable access to their favorite destinations.”
New Canadian Destinations
The expanded schedule brings substantial capacity increases across ten major Canadian airports, reflecting WestJet’s dedication to serving communities of all sizes throughout the country.
Among the most significant developments is the introduction of exclusive direct flights to Calgary from two new domestic locations.
- Sudbury, Ontario: Offering twice-weekly flights, WestJet will finally serve Canada’s largest metropolitan area previously without their service, creating a vital link between Northern Ontario and Western Canada
- Sydney, Nova Scotia: Adding twice-weekly flights to strengthen connections between Atlantic and Western Canada
U.S. Market Expansion
WestJet’s U.S. market expansion is equally impressive, with three strategic new destinations joining its Alberta network.
- Anchorage, Alaska: Twice-weekly flights from Calgary, providing access to Alaska’s outdoor adventures and cruise opportunities
- Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina: Three weekly flights from Calgary to this growing tech and education hub
- Salt Lake City, Utah: Five weekly flights from Edmonton, serving both business and leisure travelers
The airline’s transborder service is seeing an 11 percent growth, with operations extending to 29 airports and over 900 weekly departures.
Through its longstanding partnership with Delta Air Lines, WestJet passengers can seamlessly connect to an extensive network of U.S. destinations via major Delta hubs. This collaboration offers the convenience of single-ticket bookings, integrated baggage handling, and select lounge access privileges.
International Operations
On the international front, WestJet is significantly expanding its European presence. New direct flights between St. John’s and Paris headline these additions, while previously successful routes from Halifax to Paris and St. John’s to Dublin are being reinstated.
The airline is also optimizing its seasonal timing, beginning its Halifax-Edinburgh and Halifax-Dublin services a month earlier than in 2024.
Service between St. John’s and London Gatwick will increase from three to four weekly flights, providing more flexibility for transatlantic travelers.
Asian connections remain a priority, with WestJet maintaining its daily service to Tokyo. It will also increase capacity on the Calgary-Seoul route to meet growing demand for transpacific travel.
Fleet Expansion
To support this ambitious network growth, WestJet is acquiring nine leased Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This will be complemented by additional aircraft from Swoop and Sunwing.
The fleet strategy allows the airline to bolster its strategic fleet growth, while managing delays for direct-from-factory aircraft.
The airline has emphasized its commitment to maintaining a consistent guest experience by undertaking comprehensive interior cabin updates across its expanded fleet.
This standardization initiative underscores WestJet’s dedication to providing reliable, comfortable air travel throughout its growing network.
