WestJet celebrated the inaugural flight between Toronto and Grenada on December 15, marking a further stage in the airline’s expanding Caribbean network.
The departure of flight WS2522 at 7:30 a.m. ET was commemorated with festive gate-side celebrations, featuring live entertainment and special giveaways at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The flight operated the service to Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA). The seasonal service will now operate weekly through until April 27, 2025
Daniel Fajardo, WestJet’s Vice-President of Network and Schedule Planning, gave comment on the new route. “This connection enhances our position as Canada’s leading leisure airline by providing direct access to one of the Caribbean’s most desirable destinations,” he explained.
Fajardo emphasized that the WestJet Group is offering unprecedented seat capacity to sun destinations this winter, giving Canadians coast-to-coast an opportunity to escape the cold and create memorable vacation experiences.
Positioning as Premier Travel Provider
The new service strategically positions WestJet as a premier travel provider for Canadians seeking tropical getaways. By introducing direct flights to Grenada, the airline addresses a growing market demand for convenient and accessible Caribbean travel.
The route not only expands WestJet’s geographical reach but also provides travelers with a streamlined travel experience, eliminating the need for multiple connections and reducing overall travel time.
To enhance the travel experience, WestJet Vacations has established partnerships with premier resorts in Grenada. Collaborations are in place with Sandals Grenada Resort and Spa and Royalton Grenada, an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort.
This will enable guests to book travel and accommodations in a single, convenient transaction. This integrated approach simplifies travel planning and offers customers comprehensive vacation packages tailored to their preferences.
Grenada: Strong Appeal for Canadian Market
Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority, expressed enthusiasm about the new route. “This flight highlights the strong appeal of Grenada among Canadian travelers and provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to explore our island’s natural beauty, vibrant culture, and legendary hospitality,” she said.
Roach sees the direct connection as a pivotal moment for Grenada’s tourism industry, potentially attracting a new demographic of Canadian travelers seeking unique Caribbean experiences.
Kurush Minocher, Interim Chief Commercial Officer at Toronto Pearson, also welcomed the new connection. He noted its importance in providing travelers with direct access to warm destinations during the winter months.
The addition of this route demonstrates the airport’s commitment to expanding international travel options and supporting diverse travel experiences for Canadian passengers.
