Controladora Vuela Compañía de Aviación, S.A.B. de C.V., known as Volaris (NYSE: VLRS), is an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) serving Mexico, the United States, Central America, and South America.

The airline recently shared its preliminary traffic results for March 2025, offering insights into its performance and strategic adjustments.

Volaris March Performance

In March, Volaris saw a significant 10.9% year-over-year increase in available seat miles (ASMs). This reflected its efforts to expand capacity.

Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) also rose, but at a slower pace of 7.8%. Breaking it down, domestic RPMs in Mexico climbed by 9.9%, while international RPMs grew by 4.6%.

However, the load factor—the percentage of seats filled—dropped by 2.4 points to 84.4% compared to last year. Despite this, the airline carried 2.6 million passengers during the month.

Enrique Beltranena, Volaris’ President and CEO, commented on the results. He noted that the domestic load factor remained steady, a sign of successful capacity management and fare adjustments.

Internationally, demand across borders showed less flexibility, meaning travelers were less responsive to price changes.

Both markets, however, saw consistent demand from the “visiting friends and relatives” (VFR) segment.

Beltranena also pointed out that Easter shifting to April this year likely impacted load factors. Moving forward, the airline plans to keep a close eye on booking trends and tweak capacity to align with demand.
