A Volaris Airbus A320 departing for San Salvador made a precautionary return to Los Angeles due to engine problems on 25 March 2025.
Volaris flight N34309, operated by an Airbus A320-200, had conducted a departure from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The aircraft was conducting a scheduled flight bound for El Salvador International Airport (SAL).

After establishing in cruising flight, flight crew reported experiencing engine problems. The decision was then made to make a precautionary return to the departure airport.
The flight landed without further incident on runway 25L Los Angeles International Airport. The return landing was conducted just over one hour after the flight’s initial departure.

A subsequent report by the FAA confirmed the technical problem prompting the return. “Volaris Flight 4309 landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport around 1:20 a.m. local time on Tuesday, March 25, after the crew reported possible engine issues. The Airbus A320 was headed to San Salvador International Airport in El Salvador. The FAA will investigate.”

Flight data shows that the flight N34309 departed from Los Angeles International Airport at 00:09 local time on 24 March.
Following departure, the flight had set course normally, climbing to flight level FL350 for the south westerly service to El Salvador.
The flight had only just levelled off at cruising altitude when the technical issue was reported. Flight crew subsequently carried out a direct return to Los Angeles.

Conducting the N34309 rotation to El Salvador was an Airbus A320-200, registered N515VL. This is a 12.3 year old narrow body aircraft belonging to the carrier Volaris.
It has been operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in November 2012. The aircraft bears the airline name ‘Los Ruiz’.
