Virgin Australia has secured its position as Australia’s most punctual and dependable major airline for the third consecutive month.
This is according to the latest on-time performance (OTP) data released by the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) on 25 March 2025.
The February report highlights Virgin Australia’s operational excellence, showcasing its ability to outperform competitors in both reliability and flight volume.
Virgin Australia February Performance
The airline operated an average of 378 daily scheduled domestic flights throughout February, completing an impressive 98.5% of these services. Virgin Australia also recorded a departure OTP of 82.9%, the highest in the past two years for the carrier.

This figure surpasses the long-term average departure OTP of 81.8% across all domestic airlines, highlighting the airline’s consistent improvement.
Among major Australian carriers, Virgin Australia achieved the lowest cancellation rate and the highest OTP for the month, all while managing the greatest number of daily scheduled flights.
Danny Norman, Virgin Australia’s General Manager of the Integrated Operations Centre, praised the airline’s efforts. “We’re thrilled to lead the industry in reliability for the third month running. Especially while operating more daily flights on average than any other Australian airline in February,” he stated.
“Over the past year, we’ve focused on enhancing our operational performance. Achieving our best OTP in two years—above the long-term industry average—reflects the dedication of our team.”
Norman acknowledged that external factors, such as weather, can occasionally disrupt schedules. However, he emphasized that the airline remains committed to its core priority of ensuring passengers reach their destinations safely and on time.
This focus has paid off, with Virgin Australia setting a strong benchmark for reliability in the competitive domestic aviation market.

Conclusion
The BITRE data reinforces Virgin Australia’s dominance in February, a month where operational efficiency and customer satisfaction aligned smoothly.
The airline is clearly continuing to prioritize punctuality and scale, and the strategy seems to be paying off. For travelers, the airline’s streak of reliability offers confidence in a market where timeliness matters.
With three months of top-tier results, the carrier’s upward trajectory signals a promising trend as it navigates the challenges of Australia’s aviation landscape.
