A Virgin Atlantic Airbus 350 operating a long-haul service from Orlando, Florida to Edinburgh, Scotland declared an emergency whilst en route to the destination on 31 August 2024.
Virgin Atlantic flight VS226, an Airbus A350-1000 inbound from Orlando International Airport (MCO) declared an emergency with squawk code 7700.

According to the online service Flight Emergency, the emergency declaration was prompted by a medical issue on board. The flight was approaching the west coast of Ireland on track for Edinburgh Airport (EDI) when the emergency was declared.
The operating crew then expedited the planned approach into the destination airport Edinburgh (EDI).

Flight data shows that Virgin Atlantic flight VS226 made an on-time departure out of Orlando International Airport at 2200 local time on 30 August. The flight then climbed progressively to cruising level FL400 (40,000 feet) for the transatlantic service to Scotland.
Flight crew then squawked transponder code 7700 at 0940 UTC on 31 August as the aircraft approached the Irish north west coast on track for Edinburgh Airport.
The aircraft conducting the VS226 flight service from Florida was an Airbus A350-1000, registered G-VELJ. This is a 0.4 year old wide-body aircraft belonging to the carrier Virgin Atlantic. It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in May 2024.
