Vienna Airport and Korean Air Cargo have reinforced their successful air freight collaboration by extending their cargo handling agreement through 2028.

This four-year extension builds upon their strong partnership, which began in 2004 when Korean Air Cargo first launched operations at Vienna Airport. It marks nearly two decades of successful cooperation in the air freight sector.

Vienna as a Key European Cargo Hub

Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport, emphasizes the significance of this milestone. “This extension reflects two decades of mutual trust and cooperation between our organizations. “We remain committed to delivering premium transport services while reinforcing Vienna Airport’s status as Eastern Europe’s key logistics hub. The proven track record of our cooperation has consistently met the highest industry standards.”

Michael Zach, Senior Vice President Ground Handling & Cargo Operations at Vienna Airport, adds his support for the move. “This extension demonstrates our strength in air cargo operations.”

“We provide comprehensive services, modern facilities, and dedicated personnel ensuring maximum efficiency. Korean Air Cargo remains one of our most valued airline partners, and together we’ve established benchmarks for operational excellence in the region.”

Increased Cooperation Between Vienna and Incheon

The partnership reached new heights in 2024 with an expanded cooperation agreement signed in Seoul Incheon, marking the relationship’s 20th anniversary.

This enhanced collaboration addresses growing cargo demand between Korea and Central/Eastern Europe. Beyond handling services, the agreement encompasses joint marketing initiatives, logistics expertise sharing, and improved freight forwarding services.

A new Memorandum of Understanding with Incheon Airport further establishes Vienna’s position as a crucial European cargo hub linking Asia and Europe, facilitating seamless trade flows between the continents.

Korean Air Cargo’s Global Footprint

Operating up to ten weekly flights through Vienna Airport, Korean Air Cargo maintains its position as a global cargo leader.

The airline’s modern fleet includes Boeing 747-400Fs, 747-8Fs, and 777Fs, primarily handling electronic and pharmaceutical shipments from Asia through Vienna.

This robust frequency of flights underscores the importance of Vienna as a strategic hub in Korean Air Cargo’s global network.
