Over the weekend, UPS flight 5X152 bound for Shenzhen had to make an emergency return to it’s departure point of Sydney.
Information has been released pertinent to this incident, which we will get into in this article.

UPS Flight 5X152 – Sydney to Shenzhen…
UPS flight 5X152, which had to make the emergency return, is a routine scheduled flight between Sydney and Shenzhen.
Also, it is understood the aircraft involved in the incident was N331UP.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N331UP is a 24.9 year old Boeing 767-300 Freighter that was delivered to the carrier in September 1999.
Furthermore, of the 767-300F variant, UPS has 90 of them in their fleet.
Within the 90, all but one are in active service, with an average fleet age of 16.6 years.
As well as the 767-300F, UPS has the following aircraft in their mainline fleet:
- 52 Airbus A300s.
- 43 Boeing 747 Family aircraft.
- 75 Boeing 757 aircraft.
- 31 McDonnell Douglas MD-11Fs.
UPS flight 5X152, which made the emergency return, departed Sydney at 1936 local time on July 13 and initially climbed north towards Shenzhen.
Near Cunnamulla, the aircraft made a u-turn and decided to return back to it’s departure airfield.
The aircraft made a safe landing without further incident at 2134 local time, after nearly two hours in the air.
As per The Aviation Herald, it is understood that the cause for the return was a fuel leak.
Aircraft Back in Service…
Following the emergency return by UPS flight 5X152 Sydney-Shenzhen, the aircraft was grounded overnight for repairs.
Data from RadarBox highlights that N331UP then operated 5X37 to Seoul, where it currently still is at the time of writing.
It departed Sydney at 2023 local time on July 14, and landed into Seoul at 0520 local time.
