The vibrant tapestry of Morocco just became more accessible for travelers in the North of England. Ryanair is set to inaugurate a new twice-weekly service from Manchester Airport to Rabat, the country’s capital.

Starting Sunday, 30 March, this addition positions Rabat as the fifth Moroccan city directly connected to Manchester. It follows in the footsteps of Tangier, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Agadir.

This new route, operating Wednesdays and Sundays, marks a significant milestone. Notably, Rabat is currently only served by one other UK airport – London Stansted. This makes Manchester a key northern hub for travel to this historically rich destination.

Morocco Popularity Rises in UK

Morocco’s popularity among British holidaymakers has witnessed a remarkable surge. In 2024 alone, nearly half a million passengers flew from Manchester to Morocco. This was a substantial increase from 275,000 in 2023 and approximately 260,000 in 2019.

This growing appeal stems from the country’s alluring blend of year-round sunshine and pristine beaches. It offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in a distinct and captivating culture.

Indeed, affordability is a significant draw. According to Numbeo’s consumer price index, a three-course meal in a typical Rabat restaurant can be enjoyed for as little as £16 per person. A refreshing local draft beer starts at a mere £1.59. Meanwhile, the iconic souks and bazaars offer a treasure trove of bargain finds.

Rabat, a city brimming with history and culture, presents a diverse array of experiences. From serene beaches and picturesque landscapes to delectable cuisine and grand architectural wonders, there’s something to captivate every traveler.

Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V: The Hassan Tower, an unfinished 12th-century minaret, stands as a testament to the city’s rich history, overlooking Rabat’s waterfront for over 800 years.

Across from it, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, a masterpiece of North African architecture, serves as a poignant tribute to a former king.

Plage des Nations: For a perfect beach day, Plage des Nations offers two miles of golden sands facing the North Atlantic.

A variety of dining options dot the beach, renowned as a prime surfing spot. These range from casual beach bars to upscale restaurants, and even boasts a golf course. Conveniently, a regular bus service connects the beach to central Rabat in approximately 40 minutes.

Rabat’s Museum of History and Civilizations: Unearth over two millennia of history at this captivating museum. It traces Rabat and Morocco’s journey from the Punic period and Roman colonization to the Islamic era, showcasing artifacts and exhibitions that bring these historical narratives to life.

Final Word from Manchester Airport

“We are proud to connect the people of the North to the places they want to go to – and we know Morocco is somewhere they increasingly want to explore,” says Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer at Manchester Airport.

“That’s why it’s exciting that Ryanair is launching this direct route to Rabat from Manchester, only the second such service from a UK airport. The city offers an unforgettable experience, and at great value for money too. I am sure this new route will prove popular with passengers.”

This new Ryanair Manchester connection to Rabat promises to open up a world of possibilities for travelers seeking an authentic Moroccan experience.
