Following a departure from runway 27 San Diego, flight crew terminated the climb procedure and advised ATC they were experiencing a landing gear issue.
The aircraft’s right-hand main landing gear had failed to retract after takeoff. Flight crew had confirmed the gear leg was still in the down position and were negotiating with company maintenance. Following in-flight troubleshooting checks, flight crew elected to divert the aircraft to Denver International Airport (DEN).
The aircraft was able to make a safe landing in Denver approximately 90 minutes after the diversion was made.

According to the Aviation Herald, a passenger reported an announcement from the flight deck advising that the landing gear leg failed to upper lock. The announcement assured that a normal landing would take place.
The airline mustered a replacement aircraft to complete the scheduled service to Washington.
