United Airlines has announced its most ambitious international expansion to date. Set to launch in May 2025, this broad reaching network initiative will see the airline add eight new cities to its already extensive portfolio.

United’s Summer 2025 schedule includes service to eight new cities: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira Island, Portugal; Faro, Portugal and Dakar, Senegal.
Transatlantic Services
The cornerstone of this expansion is United’s enhanced transatlantic service. From its hub in Newark/New York, the airline will introduce five new nonstop routes. These will operate to cities previously unserved by any U.S. carrier.
These include Nuuk (Greenland), Palermo (Italy), Bilbao (Spain), and both Madeira Island and Faro in Portugal. Each destination offers a unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty, catering to a wide range of traveler interests.
Washington D.C./Dulles will also see significant additions, with new routes to Dakar (Senegal), Nice (France), and Venice (Italy). The year-round service to Dakar is particularly noteworthy, as it marks United’s first venture into this vibrant West African hub.
With these additions, United’s summer 2025 transatlantic schedule will feature an impressive 760+ weekly flights. This cements its status as the U.S. carrier with the most extensive Atlantic crossing options.
Transpacific Services
United’s expansion isn’t just limited to the Atlantic. In Asia, the airline is breaking new ground with direct flights from Tokyo-Narita. These will operate to Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Kaohsiung (Taiwan), and Koror (Palau).
These routes serve to further strengthen United’s transpacific network, offering seamless connections to five major U.S. hubs.
The seasonal service to Ulaanbaatar taps into Mongolia’s growing tourism market. It offering adventurous travelers access to the country’s vast steppes and nomadic culture. It opens opportunities for unique local experiences like reindeer sleigh rides and camel racing.
Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances at United, gave comment for the airline. He emphasized the airline’s commitment to offering unparalleled access to unique global destinations. “No other airline gives customers nonstop access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United.” This expansion aligns perfectly with United’s “Good Leads The Way” campaign, showcasing the airline’s extensive network and diverse travel options.
By summer 2025, United will operate an astounding 800 daily flights to 147 international destinations, including 40 routes exclusively served by the airline. This expansion not only reinforces United’s status as the world’s largest airline but also demonstrates its commitment to connecting travelers with a world of possibilities.
European Enhancements
In addition to the new routes, United is enhancing its existing European services. The airline will extend seasons for popular destinations like Venice, Athens, and Barcelona, allowing travelers more time to explore these beloved cities.
Increased flight frequencies to destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Dubrovnik, and Athens further solidify United’s dominant position in the transatlantic market.
Latin America and Caribbean Growth
United’s global vision extends to Latin America and the Caribbean as well. The airline is introducing a new route from Houston to Puerto Escondido, Mexico, making it the first and only U.S. carrier to offer this connection.
This addition brings United’s Mexican destination count to 23, with a total of 65 destinations across the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Furthermore, a new daily flight between San Francisco and San Jose, Costa Rica, will connect all seven of United’s U.S. hubs to the Central American nation, underscoring the airline’s commitment to comprehensive regional coverage.
