United Airlines: Tire Damage Causes Hydraulic Leak in Denver

A United Airlines 737-900ER operating from Denver (DEN) to Newark (EWR) shredded a main gear tire, causing flap damage and a hydraulic leak on 10 June.

A United Airlines Boeing 737-900 conducting a scheduled flight to Newark, New Jersey suffered tire damage on departure from Denver on 10 June 2024.

The damage to the tire, which reportedly shredded on takeoff, subsequently caused further damage to a wing flap and resulted in a hydraulic leak.

United Airlines UA627 Denver-Newark

United Airlines flight UA627, a Boeing 737-900ER operating from Denver International Airport (DEN) had conducted the takeoff and departure from runway 34L.

During the takeoff roll a main gear tire shredded. The flight then proceeded as normal to the destination of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

An FAA report following the flight confirmed that a main gear tire had shredded. The brief report does not confirm whether this occurred during the departure.

The tire damage had in turn caused damage to a wing flap and incurred a hydraulic leak at Newark.

Aircraft & Flight Details

Flight data shows that the flight UA627 made an on-time departure out of Denver (DEN) at zero 754 local time on 10 June.

The flight then set course normally, climbing to flight level FL330, (33,000 feet) for the easterly track to Newark, New Jersey.

The flight continued under normal operating procedures and was not the subject of an emergency declaration.

The aircraft conducting the UA627 rotation from Denver was a Boeing 737-900ER, registered N68842.

This is a 9.4-year-old narrowbody aircraft belonging to the US carrier United Airlines. It has been an operational service with the airline since its initial delivery in January 2015.

United Airlines is a major American airline headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. It is one of the largest airlines in the world.

The carrier operates an extensive domestic and international route network across the United States and all six inhabited continents.
