A United Airlines flight en route to Knoxville, TN from Chicago declared an emergency earlier this evening.
United Airlines flight UA1871, operated by an Airbus A320-200, declared a general emergency whilst on decent into Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS).
The flight was a scheduled service from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
Flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 as the flight descended through FL200 on approach to the destination airport. The nature of the emergency is not yet known.

Following the emergency declaration on descent at 03:12 UTC, flight UA1871 continued the descent and approach into McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS). Transponder code 7700 was maintained for priority during the approach procedure.
The flight subsequently landed at the destination airport at 03:35 UTC.

Flight data shows that United flight UA1871 had made a delayed departure out of Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 20:48 local time this evening.
Scheduled departure time for the service was listed as 20:00 local time.
Following departure, the flight had set course normally, climbing to FL350 for the southerly service to Knoxville. The top of descent was initiated normally, and flight crew squawked transponder code 7700 whilst established in the descent. The flight was passing through FL200 to the north of Knoxville on flight plan track when the emergency was declared.

It has been in operational service with the airline since its initial delivery from the factory in June 1996.
